Select Aquatics
|
|
|
|
|
Select Aquatics breeds affordable,
quality, specialty tropical fish for
hobbyists and conservation
research. Most are not often
seen and many are endangered
or extinct in the wild. This site
is also a one stop place for
fishkeeping information on how best to
keep these fish.
If you are keeping an aquarium,
you have the opportunity to help
preserve species that are about to
go extinct in the wild. As well, due
to increased export restrictions,
many species are at risk of
disappearing from the hobby.
The fish offered here are hardy,
generally not difficult to care
for, and may depend on
hobbyists such as yourself to
maintain their availability. |

Ordering new species you've never
kept from someone you don't know
with water different than yours can
be scary. Some assurance that in
6 months the fish will still be doing
well would be ideal, particularly
since many of these fish are rare
or hard to obtain.
From your first email to inquire
about ordering until the moment
they arrive, we will keep in close
touch to answer any questions you
may have so that you know exactly
what you are getting, and precisely
when they will be sent. Care
information for each species is
also provided Here.
Postage is never overcharged, and
extras are nearly always sent with
carefully done, professional
shipping. To help ensure they do
well for you, a Care Guide is
provided for each species from

Do You Have Trouble
Keeping Livebearers?
There
is a very Common Disease in the
Hobby that causes many Livebearers to
become thin and perish. A small parasite
exists in our aquariums, and often comes
from where we obtain our Fish, and it
primarily affects Guppies,
Swords, Platies
Mollies and Limias.
Called "Livebearer Disease", this is
often why many have trouble keeping
livebearers. There is only one drug that
is effective at treating it -
Levamisole hydrochloride.
Levamisole is also totally effective at
eradicating camallanus worms and
other minor pathogens.
This Drug is not Available from your
Local Fish Store. Various sized
packets are offered below with a
measuring spoon. A 10 gram packet
will treat 500 gallons. See more info
HERE
and in the right column below.

Odessas
Being Shipped!
At roughly 6 weeks old (and 1/2"), the
Selectively Bred
Odessas can now handle
shipping, and I am currently taking and
shipping orders. A group of Six 2-4 Month
Old Unsexed is $50 + Shipping, USPS
Overnight Express, Hold For Pickup.
The Shipping Cost is $75 - $90,
depending on your Zip Code.
The "Select Aquatics Available - Odessa
Barbs 2024" video has been posted to
Youtube. I was able to get some great
video of them!
There are roughly 400 available, so I
anticipate they should be available for a
while. Simply email
selectaquatics@gmail.com, please
include
your Zip Code, and I will email you back
with a quote, containing the payment
information and the next available day
to ship. Thank you!
Ilyodon
furcidens Progress
There are now 7 Breeding groups, each of
5-10 pairs have finally started producing
fry
this breeding season, and I am currently
approaching 100 fry that are 1-2 weeks old,
with new batches arriving 2-3 days a week.
They will be sorted for color and markings
over the next 2 months, and roughly 60%
of these new fry will be of the quality to
ship,
and I will keep their progress posted here.
When I anticipate their Availability Video
to
be posted, it will be announced here.
Ameca splendens are Available
The Ameca splendens have done well
this spring, and a limited number of groups
of Six 2-4 Month Old Unsexed are available
at this time.
Everyone
Else!
The
Ataeniobious toweri (the blue tailed
goodeid) also continue to do well, and
limited groups of young pairs and groups
of six 2-4 Months Old Unsexed are
currently available.
The
Xenotoca doadrioi
are slowly
starting to produce this spring, though
their
numbers are not yet strong enough to post
them for sale. Numerous breeding groups
are being set up for them, and though I
cannot say at this time when they will be
ready to ship as either young pairs or
groups of six young fish, I am working hard
to build them up, to have them more
regularly available in the future.
The
Longfin Green Dragons continue to
slowly grow out, and I will keep in touch
with waitlist customers on their growth,
and
their sexing out process. Once the waitlist
customers are satisfied, those fish still
remaining will be posted as available
above for regular sale here.
The
Alfaro cultratus and the Limia
islai are
being built out currently, and after nearly
80 pairs were shipped since last fall, the
Zoogoneticus
tequilas are being allowed
to build back up their numbers.

CHEAPER SHIPPING

The high quality thermal boxes that
I have been using are being discontinued,
and I have been obtaining other boxes

for as little as $75-$90, depending
on your ZIP Code. The New Boxes
will be used to Ship Groups of Six
2-4 Month Old Unsexed, or Two Pair.
Groups

$50 + Shipping
Pairs are $30 each + Shipping
Greater Availability of Species!!
When
Select Aquatics began, I posted
the letter to the right to all serious
hobbyists, to consider taking on some
of these exceptionally rare species,
maintaining them long-term, and
distributing them to others, so they do
not continue to disappear from the hobby.
A few have come forward, and I was
recently very pleased to tour
Ed's Aquatic Exotics, outside of
Pittsburgh, to find that Ed is working
very hard to keep and maintain a
number of species no longer carried
by Select Aquatics. Known through
emails as we share the same concern
for optimum fish health, his lines are
well established and robust.. Check
out his site from the link to the left
and HERE - -
EdsAquaticExotics.
I have also
added my friend Marshall
that has been supplying packing supplies
to Select Aquatics for the past 14 years,
most importantly providing breather bags
and heat packs, and his site can be visited
HERE.
Please
check out the other links to
the left and I will be adding more
recommendations in coming weeks!
Canadian Customers:
USPS has reconfigured Canadian
shipping.
Levamisole is shipped regularly, but my
fertilizer has sometimes been delayed
by Canadian Customs. (But does get
delivered.)
There are 2 ways to ship the levamisole
(10, 20 or 52 grams) and they are:
First Class - Up to 3 weeks -
$17 + Medication cost
3-5 Day Priority - $45 + Medication
Thank you!

Mr. Sage provided me with the
best experience I could've asked for. The wonderful fish he
breeds are priced
very affordably, and are super high quality.
He always responded to our emails swiftly and was extremely
helpful with any questions and concerns we had.
His packaging of the fish was phenomenal, and all (even the
extras!) arrived across the country in excellent
condition!
They are beautiful, healthy, and active. it was incredibly
stress-free as I knew I could trust the process.
Despite a small delay due to the USPS, Greg quickly assured us
that the fish would be fine.
Mr.
Sage has a great reputation in the livebearer hobby, and I can
say he has totally lived up to that
reputation for me and I'm looking forward to ordering from him
again! I seriously can't recommend him
enough.
Thank you for all you do for the hobby, Mr. Sage!
Christina K. NY
First, off thank you for the beautiful fish. Every time I
receive a new species from you I am always surprised by
how much more beautiful they are in real life versus the picture. The
Alfaro cultratus you sent for example are far more
stunning than any picture I have ever seen of them. That includes Google
image searches.
Jay G., The
Woodlands, TX
Hi Greg,
The
Odessa barbs are here, in GREAT shape, and currently
'acclimatizing' in a 5 gallon bucket with my own
graduated drip system.
Thank
you very, VERY much for your attention and care and patience
with me throughout this process. I've been
receiving fish via express mail for 30 years but your packing is a whole
new universe from what I've ever experienced.
Thank you
again for the 'bonus' fish which I counted as 8 but my wife
insists is 9. She also could not believe the packing
or condition of the fish. Also, thank you for the
anticipated forwarding of the rebate check for the excess
shipping charge.
When everything stabilizes, I'll forward some pics.
Again this has been the best fish purchasing experience I've
ever had.
